Art and Music

Music

Maharishi Academy will offer a full program of art and music activities. These programs are designed to allow our students to gain an overall appreciation for art and music and delve more deeply into that area which is of greatest interest.

Music

Maharishi Academy will offer music classes and activities in three different areas:

Maharishi Gandharva Veda Music

Maharishi Gandharva Veda music, known as “the music of nature,” is the source of the classical music of India and creates harmony in the environment through its rhythms and melodies. The students will take a one-semester course in Gandharva Veda music and learn to play simple ragas or melodies.

Students who wish to delve deeper into music may continue with advance instruction in Maharishi Gandharva Veda music or choose from two other options.

Instrumental Music

There will be instruction and rehearsal opportunities for students interested in playing musical instruments. Intermediate and advanced seminars will be given and students will have a chance to study music theory.

A series of chamber recitals and concerts for a small orchestra will be given both at the Academy and in neighboring communities. In addition, students will have a chance to perform in inter-school festivals and competitions.

The Academy Choir

Maharishi Academy Festival Singers and Academy Choir exist to allow students to develop their voices as musical instruments. A series of festivals and concerts will be arranged. In addition, the students will be encouraged to enter local, regional, and state competitions.  These programs are designed to allow students to expand their musical abilities and perform in front of large audiences.

The Arts

Each student will be encouraged to take at least two electives in the Arts to be chosen from:

  • Pen and Ink Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Photography 1 and 2
  • Film Making
  • Painting
  • Drama 1 and 2

Maharishi Academy will help the students to stage art exhibitions and theater arts presentations, including student-produced one-act plays and short films.
There will be studios for art, photography, etc., and the faculty will be available in the evenings and weekends for those students who wish go more deeply into their particular art form.

In addition, Maharishi Academy encourages its students to participate in competitions outside of school and will provide resources for its students to enter interscholastic competitions and other local and state competitions.
