Maharishi Academy Welcomes Mr. Alan Colby as the Founding Headmaster
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Alan W. Colby has been appointed as the Headmaster of the Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge.
Mr. Colby brings many years of experience as a leader and educator to our academy. As a teacher at a boarding school in New York in 1974, he gained experience working with high school boys. He has been a teacher and a principal at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa since 1989.
Mr. Colby showed a propensity for action and achievement early in life, becoming an Eagle Scout at age 14 in Amherst, Massachusetts. A lifelong learner, Alan received his bachelor of arts degree (majoring in sociology) from Colby College in Maine; a Masters in World Religions from Boston University, and a Masters in Higher Education Administration from Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.
Mr. Colby’s professional training is balanced by his interests in photography and sustainable living. His wife, Martha Bright Colby, is trained in college admissions, printing and publishing, and library science. Mr. Colby is a dedicated family man who is comfortable and enthusiastic with high schoolers. He appreciates their special qualities and needs.
Dr. Ashley Deans, Head of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, stated:
"Mr. Colby brings many years of experience as Principal of the highly successful Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment to his new position as Headmaster of Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge. Since he was appointed Principal of Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, in 1993, he has helped shape the school to achieve its current level as a world-renowned pioneer of Consciousness-Based education. In addition to his role as Principal, Mr. Colby has taught several different high school subjects, including economics, American history, world history, and photography, the latter of which he has helped to develop into an internationally recognized program. In addition, he has helped to create and maintain the databases of the school.
Over and above these achievements, Mr. Colby’s most important area of expertise is in the application of Consciousness-Based education, which helps to directly unfold the total creative potential of both students and teachers. At least twice every year he conducted faculty development courses in the Science of Creative Intelligence, a new and unfolding body of knowledge that is at the basis of the success of a Maharishi School. Hence, Mr. Colby is uniquely qualified to provide training and guidance to both our teachers and students so that every student can realize their unlimited potential and enjoy maximum success in life.”
